Painter| Printmaker| Art Educator
As far as my memory serves me I've always been drawn to making shapes on paper or finding non verbal ways to express myself. As a kid my love and fervor for the arts was nurtured through art & design camps, dance programs and an open minded mother who praised my first nonconsensual apartment wall mural at the age of 5. My professional artistic journey began when I decided to make painting the focus of my collegiate studies in 2007. I moved on to further hone my crafts in visual art at Howard University, later receiving a MFA with a concentration in Painting.
The best description for why I create is eloquently expressed by one of my favorite artists, Elizabeth Catlett,
"I have always wanted my art to service my people - to reflect us, to relate to us, to stimulate us, to make us aware of our potential. We have to create an art for liberation and for life." It is important to me that my work is the complete embodiment and reflection of those words. I am constantly challenging myself to take creative risks in various media, believing that inspiration can be found wherever I look.
